Reunion Tour - 8

Leaving Eau Claire Wisconsin, we ventured out into the North Woods, leaving the pastoral dairy farms behind. Got to the Superior Wisc-Duluth Minnesota area in time to walk around the port area before lunch. We found a couple of lighthouses, a causeway that jutted out into the water, and a very unusual bridge where the entire middle section is raised straight up to allow for the passage of large ships. The Duluth port is a mover of large amounts of grains and ores and ocean liners come into a protected area to load and unload their cargo. Very interesting. From there we drove north along a very scenic section of the shore of Lake Superior. We walked along the rocky coast for a distance. From there we headed west into the interior of Minnesota, passing through Grand Rapids on the way to Bemidji for the night. Bemidji is where we discovered the large statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe, his blue ox. Bemidji is also known as the first city of the Mississippi River, which originates a few miles south at Lake Itasca. I had a walleye filet at the restaurant tonight.

The picture of Dorothy next to Paul Bunyan put the picture of her standing next to the cornfield into perspective. She is obviously shrinking!
