Reunion Tour - 6

As we left Springfield Friday morning, we made a stop at the Lincoln Tomb then headed north for our home area. After a brief stop by to see my Mother, we headed for the house of my brother Ray and his wife Sally for our lodging. Since Ray is farming the family farm that I grew up on, I got to stay in the bedroom that I grew up in. Also while there we checked on the old adage that the corn is supposed to be "knee-high by the Fourth of July". We were there on July 2 so you can see by the picture that it made it (Dorothy isn't that short!) Saturday afternoon Dorothy and I went to our old high school for a tour of the facilities to see how much they had changed. There were several changes but we decided that it was still the same place. Saturday night we went to the 50th Anniversary of our graduating class with a bunch of old friends. Actually most of them looked old but we didn't feel that we did. We had a great time reminiscing and telling stories that have gotten bigger and better over the years. We had such a good time that we had Sunday morning breakfast together before we all went our separate ways. Also on Sunday morning Dorothy and I stopped by the church she grew up in and where we were married. The picture is of the altar where we tied the knot. I still remember how hot it was that September day. Monday morning we headed north and stopped first at Ulysses S. Grant's home in Galena Ill. After following the River Road for a while, we stopped at The House on the Rock near Dodgeville. In addition to a large house that was built on a rock overlooking a valley, it is a collection of items unlike any you will ever see. It includes the largest carousel in the world, animated music machines, collections of organs, dollhouses, miniature circuses, firearms, and just about anything else you can think of. Pretty amazing. The pictures include the Infinity Room (from inside and picture of outside), the world's largest carousel (regular speed and slow motion), one of the world's largest organs, and a couple of spooky guys. By the time we finished we were tired and decided to stay in Dodgeville for the night.
