Day 28 - Phoenix AZ to Flagstaff AZ

Got up early and called Greg so he could wish his Mother a happy Mothers Day. He is traveling to California this morning and we caught him before he left. Finished up the visit to Phoenix and headed north in the direction of The Canyon. We again took the indirect route off the interstate and went first to Jerome, an old mining town that was converted to an artist colony when the mines were closed. Many artist galleries in this quaint old town. We made some minor investments and drove to the nearby Tuzigoot National Monument, which was the location of a village inhabited by the Sinaguan people between 1000 and 1400 AD. While in the neighborhood we couldn't pass up the opportunity to re-visit the Sedona red rocks area. It was just as impressive the second time. Also passed through Oak Creek Canyon in driving to Flagstaff for the night. We celebrated Mothers Day enroute at a local Dairy Queen. I called my Mother yesterday to avoid the rush. We'll head to the Canyon early in the morning, probably taking the scenic route there as well.

And when you finish with the Grand Canyon, you should try Zion Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Red Canyon, Kodachrome Canyon, and Canyonlands. These are all in UTAH. And pretty close is Arches and Capital Reef Natl Parks. Glad to hear you are having a good time.
