Day 16 - Tombstone AZ to Tucson AZ
Took an early morning drive to Boot Hill at Tombstone Arizona. The tombstones told the story of a violent world in those days. Many of the wooden headstones told of men being murdered, stabbed or hanged. My favorite headstones read: "Here lies George Johnson, Hanged by Mistake 1882, He was Right We was Wrong, But We Strung Him Up and Now He's Gone". We then walked through the Cochise County Courthouse Museum. This was the building where Wyatt Earp served as sheriff. Many really interesting and authentic items in this museum. Then we went on some back roads heading for Tucson. Went to a couple of museums on the University of Arizona campus, one on creative photography and one on the history of Arizona. Then headed to an outdoor museum several miles away called the Desert Museum. They have an interesting collection of animals that are shown more or less in their native environment. Unfortunately it was about 95 degrees and there was quite a bit of walking. But a very enjoyable show anyway. We drank lots of water. Just a few miles away was the Saguaro National Park, which provided a fairly short drive through many saguaros. On to the motel after a fairly long day. The top two pictures were added later. They're at the Courthouse Museum in Tombstone and show a notorious bank robber cleaning out the bank's safe while her partner, the town lush, waits for her to finish her job.
